Laurel Ridge Elementary

Dekalb County Schools

Weekly Update 4/24/2023

Week of April 24, 2023

Greetings Parents,

This year is rapidly winding down, and we still have so many great things to celebrate. There will be the final PTA Meeting with elections for next year on Tuesday. We will also be celebrating our wonderful front office staff on Wednesday, April 26. Ms. Bell and Ms. King make sure that our school runs smoothly!

At a Called Board Meeting on April 19, the DeKalb County Board of Education selected Dr. Devon Horton as the next superintendent.

Our third, fourth, and fifth-grade students will finish up taking the GA Milestones, and MAP testing will begin. During this last bit of state and district testing, remember that our students have worked all year and are ready to show what they know.

As a reminder, an individual test can’t measure the whole of a student. This past week Laurel Ridge came together in a celebration of culture and art and I hope that it reminded everyone that school is about exploring new opportunities and learning from each other. It is important that we remember to value all of our students’ strengths. Standardized testing will never be able to measure your student’s curiosity, their ability to be a leader or their love for learning.

The weekly messages can be found on the Principal’s Page: https://laurelridgees.dekalb.k12.ga.us/PrincipalsPage.aspx

Have a great week,

Ms. Hartman
