Laurel Ridge Pre- K Welcome

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to Pre-K at Laurel Ridge Elementary School! We are thrilled to have your child join our learning community and look forward to a wonderful year filled with exploration, discovery, and growth.

Our dedicated team of teachers and staff is committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment where your child can thrive. We believe that early childhood education lays the foundation for lifelong learning, and we are here to support your child's development in every way possible.

Here are a few important details to help you and your child get ready for the school year:

1. Meet the Teacher:
Meet the Teacher will take place during our Open House event. We are waiting for DCSD to announce open house dates for the upcoming school year, when they are scheduled, we will let you know the date and time. This is a great opportunity for you and your child to visit the classroom, meet the teachers, complete school paperwork, and get acquainted with Laurel Ridge.

2. Daily Schedule:
Our Pre-K program runs from 7:50 AM to 2:25 PM, Monday through Friday. The school building opens at 7:00 AM for students to arrive. Please ensure your child arrives on time and is picked up promptly at the end of the day. Consistent attendance is crucial for your child's success.

3. What to Bring: Please make sure that all of your student's daily supplies are able to be stored in their bookbag.

Our school supplies list is on our school website: https://laurelridgees.dekalb.k12.ga.us/parents.aspx
  • A labeled backpack (full size)16” or larger
  • A change of clothes (in Ziploc type bag labeled with your child's name) - please ensure your child can use the restroom as well as change their own clothes independently. This is a good skill to practice during this last bit of summer.
  • Full, reusable water bottle (labeled with child’s name)
  • Small snack (labeled “snack”). Separate from lunch to avoid confusion.
  • If your student is bringing lunch, be sure they can open all containers by practicing at home before school starts.
  • Small, thin blanket or beach towel @ 24”x48” for your child to use during naptime (labeled with child’s name)
  • Any medication that may need to be administered at school needs documentation from a physician that can be turned into the school nurse or front office (Medication During School Form).

4. Communication:
We value open communication and believe it is key to your child's success. Your child’s teacher will communicate via email, weekly communication, and ClassDojo.  We use ClassDojo to share updates on classroom activities, important dates, and any other pertinent information. Detailed instructions for ClassDojo will be shared at the Open House. Until then, monitor your email from messages from Ms. Hartman.

5. Parent Involvement:
We encourage parents to get involved in our classroom activities and school events. Your participation enriches the learning experience and shows your child the importance of education. Please connect with our PTA using this website: https://www.laurelridgeelementary.com/

There is a Pre-K and Kindergarten Meet Up on August 3 from 9am to 11am hosted by the PTA at the Laurel Ridge playground.

Thank you for entrusting us with your child. We look forward to a fantastic year ahead!

Warmest regards,
Ms. Hartman, Ms. Curry, and Ms. Reed
